Interview to Giorgio Bendazzoli, climbing World champion
Giorgio Bendazzoli in 2016 in China has become the climbing World champion in the category Youth A (Under 18). We have contacted the climber from Vicenza to have him taste Bivo 2.0 and have his feedback on the product from a person, like him, that every day pass many hours “hung on a wall”. Enjoy the reading
Q: Hello Giorgio, thank you to offering us the possibility to have Bivo tested by a World champion. We would like to know more about you and your passion. How can you combine study and climbing?
Giorgio: I manage to combine study and climbing trying to be as efficient as possible with the time I have, avoiding any extra task apart from school and sport.
D: Do you have hobbies, beyond climbing? Or is it a passion so all absorbing that takes all your free time?
Giorgio: Climbing takes a good chunk of my free time so that in the time I have left I prefer simply to relax or study. I am like enough to train with great friends so that the training session is often the funniest part.
D: At what age have you started climbing? From whom have you learn to love this activity?
Giorgio: I started to go to a climbing gym when I was 6 years old, following the suggestion of my uncle. Even before that I loved climbing trees so I think I can say it was a innate passion.
D: Have you ever thought that you could become World champion? How did you manage to do it? What do you feel being a World champion?
Giorgio: Since the first years of climbing I knew that I would have dedicated a large part of my life to this sport and I was constantly determined to improve and reach my maximum potential; I knew that sooner or later I would have had the opportunity to show that. Before going to the World champion in November 2016 I was aware that I was in great shape, but I had to wait the first qualification round to understand that I could really win. As always during competitions there are many variables and many possible mistakes you can do, and being able to express my potential at best for all the time that day made me even more happy than the victory by itself. It was an unforgettable experience, which I will stay with me all my life.
D: About nutrition, do you have any particular restrictions? Do you follow any diet?
Giorgio: At the moment I am guided by the nutritionist of the national team, who prescribes me a specific diet for my sport. I don’t have any particular restrictions but I have to limit sweets and some other things.
D: Can you tell us why you like Bivo and why do you suggest it to whom, like you, loves climbing?
Giorgio: I like Bivo because it is a natural, balanced and healthy product, based on the Mediterranean Diet, which is very good for the needs of a climber. Moreover it is very practical because you can prepare it in zero time and does not make you fell “heavy”, a lot less than a traditional complete meal, having the same energy intake.
D: Can you tell us a particular and exciting moment, among the many, in which you were busy climbing in some corner of the world?
Giorgio: Without any doubt I prefer cliff climbing, because the beauty of the action by itself is united with the great view of the mountains. One of the most beautiful cliffs I had the opportunity to climb is Ceuse, in France. The rock is incredible and seems like designed on purpose, the steps you have to take are long, making climbing that place hard and adrenaline-filled. Finally you can enjoy the view of the French campaign from 2000 metres of altitude. A very thrilling place where I look forward to going back this summer.
D: What are you plans for the future? What your objectives?
Giorgio: This year there will be new opportunities because I will have the chance to go to the University of Trento to study Information Technology, where I will have more structure available to train and the possibility to autonomously manage my time. I think I will continue to further push my limits and to reach great results also at a senior level; in the meantime I hope I will be able to meet new people and make unforgettable experiences.
