WORLD TRENDS IN FOOD INNOVATION – ROBOTICS

In a previous article we introduced the theme of foodtech (https://www.completefood.it/en/world-trend-foodtech/), giving a brief summary of the main areas in which the most innovative food companies in the world are working.

Before starting we remind you that we at Bivo have developed the only Complete Food Made in Italy, a complete and balanced food, totally natural and ready in 30 seconds. Curious to try it? Go to the following link:

Let’s talk about robotics applied to the world of nutrition. In two previous articles we have already discussed intelligent machines capable of revolutionizing the world of food, in particular when we have explored the potential of drones applied to home delivery of food and 3d printing applied to the kitchen (find the whole in the “Food Innovation ”of our blog).

The point of view we want to give you in this article is different because it concerns robots that will automate the most repetitive actions of the food chain: from the production of raw materials, to industrial production, to direct contact with the consumer. In all sectors, automation will replace the repetitive work carried out by operators today. It is only a matter of time: several studies indicate that in just 20 years, almost half of the existing jobs will be automated and will be carried out by robots or bots (hardware and software).

Already the impact of robotics is strong in the world of food (let’s only think of the automated production lines of most industrial foods) and is destined to increase exponentially in the coming years. The consequence will be, if we limit ourselves to the sphere of industrial production, an increase in production efficiency, a reduction in errors and waste and in general a lowering of the marginal cost of production.

We give you an example to better understand what we are talking about. As often happens the new trends are born in Silicon Valley, as happened in the case of Complete Food, the category of products of which the very Italian Bivo is a part. Let’s go back to robotics to talk about a San Francisco startup: Creator (http://creator.rest/?/). It is a machine that can prepare and cook different types of hamburgers in a totally autonomous way, starting from the basic raw materials. The cost to the consumer, even considering the high quality of the raw materials used, is just 6 Dollars, lower than the other burgers sold in the stores of the same city (San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the world!). The reason is simple: no staff is needed to prepare a dish, the machine does everything. If you want to see Creator in action here a recent video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TBnwh7U1AU.

Frightened? We will see what the future holds for us.

But let’s not despair: for every repetitive job that will be replaced by machines, new, more creative ones will be created and that machines (for now) will not be able to reproduce.
