Startup to notice: Power Gari by JUST Inc.

In the past in our social media we have already spoken about Hampton Creek Foods (renamed JUST Inc.), a super interesting startup of San Francisco, USA, which works in the food innovation sector. It was born in 2011 and it work for producing sustainable food, challenging some standards which some years before seemed to be unchangeable.

This time we will not speak about their most famous product, JUST Mayo, a mayonnaise which is totally of plant origin. This product was so successful that, after the first severe critics, even huge multinational companies (for example, Unilever) have decided to copy it.

We want to speak about, instead, one of the projects of JUST that in our opinion are more praiseworthy. It is the “Power Gari” project, launched in February 2018 in Liberia, Africa.

Power Gari is actually a Complete Food, like Bivo, but its aim is different of any other products of this kind. Power Gari wants to provide complete food to the poorest people of Africa. The projects starts from Liberia, where millions of people are forced to have an absolutely unbalanced diet, made by rice, potatoes and not so much more. In these conditions human body does not intake all the necessary substances for the growth and development of the organism. The results of bad nutrition, typical of African countries, are really heavy for the whole society and do not allow those countries to express their potential.

We think this is a great idea, that demonstrates once more that the concept of Complete Food can be applied to situations beyond what seems obvious. It is another proof that we are speaking about food products which are not only innovative and environmentally sustainable, but also smart.
