The new formula of Bivo 2.0

Many of you asked us what is different in the new Bivo compared to the old one. We have decided to write this brief article, in which we will try to describe the choices we made in developing Bivo 2.0 and the result we obtained.

From a nutritional point of view, we have maintained the proportions of the typical Mediterranean Diet. Substantially the nutritional aspect is the same as in the first version, with a small correction that regards a slight increase in protein and a slight decrease in lipids.

The first big news is about the caloric content. We have listened to the feedbacks of our customers, that were asking us to decrease the energy content in a single portion packet of Bivo. A packet of Bivo 1.0 provided 685 kcal; the packets of Bivo 2.0 gives energy for 440 kcal. This is because we understood that people using Bivo during their lunch break wanted a lighter product, while people using it during their spare time for outdoor activities preferred to have smaller packets and be able to decide how much to eat. Therefore, we decided to use ergonomic and resealeble packets; in this way today it is possible to decide how much powder to use; moreover inside the bag or backpack the new packets of Bivo takes less room compared to the previous version.

In developing the new product we have worked a lot on its texture and its taste. This has brought also to the modification of some of the ingredients.

Whole oat flour (first ingredient of Bivo) and maltodextrin remain fundamental. These two ingredients allows Bivo to provide energy immediately, thanks to maltodextrin, and to provide slow releasing energy, thanks to oat flour. We have lowered the content of flaxseeds. Moreover, thanks to cold-milling process we have obtained a finer powder. This change has surely improved the solubility of the product with water.

To complete the protein content of Bivo and its amino acid profile we decided to add pea protein. This ingredient has allowed us to increase the homogeneity of Bivo powder in water.

Speaking about ingredients, we added coconut oil, which is a lipidic source useful to compensate the decrease in the quantity of flaxseed.

We also have maintained the presence of borage oil, which is an ingredient we like a lot for its many positive properties.

These modifications have created a perfect texture for Bivo 2.0, which as smooth as a milkshake. We have worked for many months with a team of professionals, who are expert in developing new food products. This team helped us to improve the taste of Bivo too.

We have in fact radically changed the flavouring of Bivo. About the previous version many people told us that the flavour were not noticeable enough. At the end of the process we have launched 3 versions: Bivo Natural, Bivo Mango, Bivo Coconut. A fourth version is on its way and will be available soon…

 

We are really happy with the result. While in the previous version of Bivo the nutritional content was great, its taste was quite neutral. Bivo 2.0 maintains the same nutritional features, but it is at the same time super tasty. At the beginning of the project we could not have imagined to be able to reach such a good result. We think that having a tasty product is very important in Italy (and not only here), where people are not willing to let down taste. Many people preferred an unhealthy sandwich to healthy food…now we are sure they will choose Bivo: food which is both healthy and tasty!

The last modification we did is about the shaker, that is thought to be used by who loves outdoor activities. The new shaker has a loop, thanks to which you can easily fix it to your backpack, avoiding any problem during your adventures and saving room inside the backpack.
